How to Prevent the Spread of a Virus

Data based on the National Health Interview Survey of the National Center for Health Statistics show that the common cold annually causes 35.6 acute illnesses per 100 people. Many viral infections we fight off everyday without evening knowing it! Very few viral infections cause a significant number of deaths, most commonly in people who have underlying health conditions or are immune-compromised.

There are a few steps you can take to ward off viruses starting today!

  1. Manage your stress – Get 20-30 minutes of daily exercise.  Keep a gratitude journal.  Practice abdominal breathing.
  2. Increase Your Vitamins – D3/K2, Zinc, Vitamin C, Probiotics and Elderberry should be taken prophylactically to help boost your immune system.
  3. Improve Diet & Reduce Sugar – Eating clean by decreasing sugar, alcohol, gluten and dairy may be one of the easiest things to increase immunity.

What is the Webster Technique, and Why is it Important?

Back pain is one of the most common reasons pregnant women come into our office.  Although getting adjusted may help alleviate low back pain in soon-to-be moms, there are far greater benefits to beginning chiropractic care as early as you can!

One of the most important aspects of caring for a pregnant woman is the ability to keep her stress levels down and her nervous system functioning at 100%.  Regardless of the type of stress, they all have major implications for the fetus.  The increase in adrenaline while under stress can cause an increase in fetal heart rate and a DECREASE in fetal oxygen supply.  Getting adjusted will help restore balance within the nervous system and decrease the effects that stress has on the body.

While the fetus grows, the mother’s body is going through numerous musculoskeletal changes.  Over 30 years ago, Dr. Larry Webster developed a technique to help reduce the effects of sacral subluxation on the pregnant woman. ...

Spinal Adjustments: An Interns Perspective

Before our current Social Media and Functional Nutrition Assistant Jorell started working with us, he started out as our summer intern during the summer of 2019. The following is the retelling of his first-ever adjustment!

Jorell & NSPAH

I’ve been interning at North Shore Pro-Active Health for 4 weeks. I was given the opportunity to work alongside Dr. Jordan Leasure in assessing lifestyle solutions for patients seeking functional medicine services. But in the midst of observing these appointments, I’ve watched Dr. Jordan perform spinal adjustments on a few of her patients. Admittedly, prior to working at the clinic I have never sought out chiropractic or retaliatory services and never knew how powerful a healthy spine is in the context of a person’s overall livelihood in preventing chronic disease.

History, Examination & Treatment

The full first-patient examination was both quick and comprehensive. Dr. Jordan asks questions regarding my...

Why are Re-Examinations so Important?

It’s that time again. Either after four weeks of treatment or ten visits our patients are scheduled for a re-examination with the doctor. Why you ask? To make you fill out more paperwork? To add more time to your appointment? Well, not exactly.

Every new patient completes a consultation and initial examination on their first visit.  Both aspects are extremely important.

Consultation/Subjective Findings: This is where you tell the doctors about your condition.  Types of questions the doctors may ask include: when did it start, symptoms you notice, pain/discomfort intensity, type of discomfort and most importantly how these symptoms are affecting your daily life.  Not all conditions we see can answer the same questions such as anxiety or insomnia vs. pain.  The consultation is all in your words.

Examination: The examination includes objective findings that can be measured and should be able to be replicated.  In our office this includes, but is...

Chiropractic Myths

One of the greatest aspects of Facebook is the ability for articles and blog posts to go viral very quickly.  Just the other day a friend from Chiropractic School posted a link to a blog that discussed common chiropractic myths.  It was such a great article I thought I would take a couple of those to share here.

The only way to advance a profession that I am extremely passionate about is to increase awareness and education.  Stay tuned for a future post on even MORE myth’s debunked!

Chiropractic Myth #1Chiropractors are not REAL doctors.  Not only is this myth not true, but it is extremely offensive.  Even chiropractic patients are guilty of saying “I need to talk to my real or regular doctor”.  A chiropractic college grants a D.C. or Doctorate of chChiropractic degree. Chiropractors are licensed as health care providers in every U.S. state and dozens of countries around the world. The chiropractic and medical school...

Kiddos and Chiropractors

By: Taunya Farr

Let’s be honest, having kids in school is a breeding ground for all kinds of germs.  It might seem as if you or someone you know always has a sick kid home with a cold, an ear infection, strep throat, etc.  I started bringing my kids in for Chiropractic care about a year ago.  Initially they were skeptical to have an adjustment but Dr. Jordan and Dr. Jade quickly made them feel comfortable and I’m certain they giggled through most of their adjustment and it was over before they even finished talking about their Christmas Wish List.

Since then, I’ve noticed that my kids (ages 6 and 8) seem much happier, healthier and more calm from getting adjusted regularly.  If they happen to be coming on with something, I’ll bring them in and it seems that the adjustments help “kick” the ailment much more quickly.  Ear infections seem to be a thing of the past and my two children will actually ASK for an adjustment if...
